After almost 2 years of application, the Program Agropreneur Muda MAFI grant has finally materialised in end May 2022. This local program by the Government of Malaysia is to encourage and incentivise Malaysian youths (aged 40 and below) to embark on a farming career. 13 damara sheep (inclusive 1 male) arrived with one grass chopper machine. Not many but it’s a good start to seed the entire livestock farming initiative. These sheep arrived in Malaysia from Australia sometime in February 2022 and have acclimatised themselves to the humid tropics. They’re a hardy and highly adaptable breed suitable for beginners.
I have also bought a 125cc ATV to help with general works at the farm and to especially lessen the workload of my worker when obtaining grass feed for the sheep. The ATV would be helpful to shuttle materials to the furthest end of the farm and transporting planting materials or harvested crops.
With this addition, the animal mix at the farm is complete. Chickens, ducks, sheep, geese and kelulut honey bees. Now, it’s all about fine tuning the entire process to ensure maximum/optimum return with minimal input/labour.
