The 5 dogs that I’ve been raising for the past 6 months as puppies eventually decided to turn against me by first going after 4 ducks. It was literally a blood bath. 2 were seriously wounded, and another 2 injured (recovered in 2 weeks). Within 12 hours, the 2 seriously wounded succumbed to their injuries due to deep puncture wounds unseen earlier.
Putting the pieces together after having seen scraps of remains lying around, I reckon a total of 6 ducks were killed over the past month.
I thought by having the dogs since young growing up with the animals, they can be trained to restrain and coexist. I was wrong, or perhaps I wasn’t a good dog trainer; but I’m by no means trying to be one. I later learned of the possibility that the dogs must have acted as a pack of friendlies out of “frustration” due to insufficient time/care spent on them. It is true. I have not been able to spend time showering them with love and care. I just didn’t have the time. The dogs somehow knew about it and “rebelled” to gain attention or something I guess.

I quickly launched into damage control mode. Immediately locked the dogs in within zone Sasha (an entire acre of space) which is pretty well fenced up. Unfortunately, within a day, they got out and entered zone Taylors to attack 10 chickens. 4 killed instantly, injuring 6 others, of which 1 recovered and 3 died, leaving another 2 still recovering in isolation today.
The chickens were healthy 2.0 – 2.4kg birds with a market price of easily RM 40+. To add salt to injury, the dogs have also been eating the chicken eggs. I’m totally floored by these strange behaviours of the dogs; or maybe they aren’t all that strange either. I’m not an expert of animal behaviour but I certainly felt betrayed by them.
I had to let the dogs go immediately.
