I’ve started with the introduction of geese into the farm as they are easier to deal with. Being hardy and tough birds, it would be a good and safe start for a newbie like me to get myself into the flow of tending the animals. I was lucky to be able to purchase a pair of matured grey male/female geese at RM 350. The normal going price was about north of RM 400.

Within an hour upon arriving, the female goose laid an egg. Over the next 3 weeks, it laid about 7 eggs. The goose started to incubate for over a month. Eventually only 2 hatched to my utmost pleasure. Unfortunately, one of the gooselings died within a week. The rest of the eggs did not make it.

I do realised that the geese are pretty aggressive animals, especially more so during the incubation period. The gander stood guard and hissed without fail every time I’m nearby. In fact, even after incubation, the geese have always maintained a wary distance from me whenever I tend to them. I was told that they would be a good security addition to the farm as they would guard against presence of snakes and sound the proximity alarm whenever one pops up nearby.
