Moon Mushroom bigger than one's palm many folds!

Wild Forage: Moon Mushroom

Sometimes we have to admire the Indonesians’ grit and wits. My worker Wulan foraged this godzilla-sized mushroom for the third time. Earlier, I’ve shared in a post about something called, Monkey’s ear (telinga beruk) mushroom (which is super tasty!). And now, here’s another.

They say it’s edible, calling it Cendawan Bulan (direct translation in the Malay language: Mushroom Moon). I sternly told them to be careful and not simply eat such things especially mushrooms as they can be poisonous. Often times, there are many mushrooms with lookalikes. It ain’t a joke, though I jokingly said if they die, I die too as I need them to run the farm! They dismissed me with expert-like nonchalance.

Simply amazing!

Anyway, they are still alive and kicking today so I guess the moonshrooms are safe.

It will be amazing if we can have a wild section at the farm with stacked logs to grow and forage for these nutrient-dense food. However, one has to be cautious as not all mushrooms are edible and they can be fatal if the poisonous ones are ingested. Experienced foragers would know which are edible and only they will know from their lifelong experience of having eaten them in the early days.

Bulan (Moon in the Malay language) for Wulan.
